Description
The population of the United Stated is becoming increasingly diverse. This course will explore the definition and dimensions of diversity and examine U.S. population trends. Despite having one of the best health care systems in the world, there are still dramatic differences in health status between cultural groups. The students will be introduced to concepts of health disparities with examples from specific diseases and indicators of health. Possible causes, mitigating factors and strategies to reduce health disparities will be discussed. Students will study the epidemiology of disease and interpret demographic data and incidence, mortality and morbidity.
