Description
This course has two basic goals; the examination of the theoretical arguments for crime and criminal behavior; and the analysis of crime and public policy. The first part of the course will examine the various theories that comprise the three broad groups of theory in criminology; criminal behavior as freely chosen; criminal behavior as caused by conditions beyond the control of the individual; and the behavior of criminal law. The second part is concerned with the responses of society, as reflected in public policy, to the issue of crime and criminal behavior.
